Freya 20.12.11

Freya had difficulty saying goodbye but settled very quickly as we searched for mushrooms
and played fetch with Roxy – soon Freya was asking to play with Ahliah and our
day had begun with cooking in the cubby.

We came inside for baking – more yummy Christmas cookies – Freya and Ahliah were very
good at sharing and resisted putting their fingers into the tasty cookie bowl!
Freya was talking happily.

As we were finishing off, Tshinta and baby Amani came in to visit. I could see Freya has
become much more comfortable with their presence; as she smiles at Tshinta and
brings toys for Amani. At one stage we were all down on all fours trying to
encourage Amani to crawl.

We did some colouring for our midday activity and folded the paper into a small cookie box.
Freya was most delighted to fill it up and take it home.

Today I saw a talkative, questioning and happy Freya. Over the year I have seen Freya's confidence and life skills grow, she has an amazing memory and a wonderful connection with language, speaking and singing though our morning circle as she learns the content quickly.

21.12.11

Today Freya arrived happy and well. I had some chalk ready and we quickly set out to colour
the front path.

It was a lot of fun as colours were shared and patterns drawn.
Soon the game moved on and Freya was picking flowers and enjoying the company
of Roxy and Ahliah. Next a pile of sand became the item of interest and before
we knew it morning tea time had arrived.

We filled our tummies and played inside. Freya did some building, read books to Ahliah and
played on the rocking horses. It has been lovely to finish off with a nice
'quite' couple of days with just Ahliah and Freya – they are very relaxed and
really have been enjoying each others company. It's been magical watching their
relationship grow with the confidence they have given each other.

We finished the day outside amongst the garden and animals. At rest time I told a story
about a little boy Rory who would start pre-school after the long summer
holidays: It turns out all the things he has been practising with Mirianna (his
carer) are the same things he will do at pre-school, like cooking, morning
walks, meal times, painting and so on. I realised then Freya has a wonderful
head start as she knows some of the routines and songs.

Thank you for all your support and trust.

Freya 14.12.11

Freya arrived tired but well. She said a lovely good morning to Ahliah and handed her a
flower gift. We had a bit of a hard goodbye, but Freya recovered quickly and
was happy to get on with her day. Most of our outside time Freya spent
collecting and playing with flowers, we also came across an array of insects.

Freya has become very confident with handling the familiar insects and bugs, it
is wonderful to see her take part in the world around her.

Freya and Denzil took a while to find a good game together – Freya was very extroverted
and energetic. At first there was lots of excitement, giggling, running and
funny word games, but as the day wore on they found there way into some great
games together; Outside cooking with all the colours of the rainbow, inside
using the bunny family to hop around on all kinds of adventures.

For our midday activity we worked on our portfolio's; Freya was very ken to get started
on hers. We carefully glued in some pressed flowers (pressed together in
spring), and added some colouring touches. Freya has a very good memory and
loves telling all the stories in her portfolio.

By the end of the day Freya said she was very tired, I could see she had given it all she
had. I'm sure she'll have a great sleep and arrive in the morning ready to play
once again.

 15.12.11

Freya arrived after a good sleep, but was very clingy, Jasmine was wonderful as she
encouraged Freya to say goodbye and play. She was very sympathetic towards
Freya, afterwards Jasmine checked that Freya was feeling ok. Freya was very
brave even though I could see she was still feeling sad. We got Freya busy and
soon I saw her smile again. Freya was however more sensitive and emotional than
usual.

At morning tea play, Jasmine asked to build a cubby with the chairs, Freya quickly joined
and soon there were two houses connected with a tunnel. Freya in one Jasmine in
the other and Ahliah going between.

The girls very much enjoyed visiting each other and sharing cups of tea. Soon the dolls were also invited to the tea
party and then a large array of other toys were relocated into the 'houses'.
Freya moved more and more thing into her house, then after some time she began
to move them all across to Jasmine's house. 'Are you moving houes?' I asked.
'Yes!' replied Freya with a smile.

Our midday activity was painting, we each painted our own interpretation of a flower
garden; Freya had beautiful colours – it was so rewarding she didn't want to
stop painting.

We spent the afternoon outside; playing fetch with Roxy, hunting pet caterpillars, cooking
and sailing in the boat. A very busy day.

16.12.11

Freya was still very unhappy to part this morning, but recovered really well and picked
up more and more as the day went on. She had lots of fun playing with Jasmine –
who happens to be great sunny company when one is feeling a little down. In the
last couple of days Ahliah and Freya have also been really close, Freya seems
really happy to have Ahliah to play with.

We had a lovely day together. Freya and Jasmine were playing really cohesively, sharing
ideas and interests; dressing up, cubby building, playing bunny games, mum's
and daughters and out in the garden they decorated, cooked and tended to the
guinea.

For our  morning and midday activity we baked Christmas cookies and carefully coloured
some paper to fold into little gift boxes, which we filled with yummy Christmas
cookies – It was a lot of work, but Freya seemed to enjoyed the process and was
very excited to take her gift home. We got to share some of the tasty biscuits
for afternoon tea too. Yum.

Freya 07.12.11

Freya arrived very ready to start the day. We enjoyed a walk through the garden, chasing
butterflies and blowing dandelion puffs. Freya was in a really positive space
and very much enjoyed Ahliah's company; the girls gave flower and garden gifts
to each other played wonderfully all day.

We spent the morning in the garden as usual, but today it was beautifully harmonious as the
girls inspired each other with water play and cooking, they walked together
picking and sat together in the penny royal mixing. It was wonderful to see
Freya so happy and relaxed in herself, as she flowed through the day and could
fully immerse herself in each activity.

During inside playtime Freya and Ahliah found themselves in the playroom.

Freya carefully built a house with 'strong walls' and a comfy bed, she gathered lots of things
together in the house. Ahliah spent most the time cooking, as Freya built
around her and talked about the game; 'Ahliah here is a nice strong wall for
the house. Here are all our things. Ahliah I need some food.'Ahliah then would
pass Freya food. Soon Freya started calling Ahliah 'Mama' and I knew Freya had
slipped into the wonderful world of imaginative and therapeutic play.

We did some work on our portfolios – Freya carefully coloured some of the blank
spaces and shared all the crayons so well with Ahliah, the girls ended up
passing crayons back and forth between each other.

08.12.11

Freya found it difficult to say goodbye this morning. There are a lot of big changes taking
place in Freya's life; moving house, visiting pre-school/starting pre-school,
finishing here and going on holidays. With her growing awareness these events
can become more stressful, but with the support and consistency of trusted
adults and her childhood flexibility, Freya will manage all these transitions.

Freya cheered up very quickly as Denzil and Jasmine arrived. Today Denzil had some beautiful
pictures he drew to give out to all the children as gifts.

All the children enjoyed the morning circle and sang along together with lots of gusto
– it is lovely to see how their confidence has grown and how they have been
able to enjoy so many different experiences through each other's interests and
talents. Freya is especially quick at learning new sings and verses.

For our midday activity the children worked on their portfolio's – colouring any
available space. They are very proud of their work and really loved looking at
all their photo's. There was lots of comparing and memory sharing between the
children.

The children settled really well into an array of imaginative games; dressing up, building houses and a
water skiing circuit ($1 per ride) for the small dolls. Then there was lots of
cooking and a 'mum and dad' game started, the dolls were tended to and soon
everyone was making their beds to go to sleep. It's wonderful to see how the
children are able to use their creativity and concepts to build a world of
imagination and fun.

09.12.11

Freya was still very sensitive today; if I wasn't nearby and busy with her she would
become very quiet and withdrawn. At one stage Freya cried, but couldn't say
what was upsetting her. I asked if it was because she is moving house and
suggested to take some photo's of her favourite places and put them into a
little book, that was Freya can always have them. Freya seemed to like the
suggestion.

Today was the last day all the children would spend the day together. We have been planning a
feast of fresh pesto pasta, honey carrots and fruit salad. We have been
watching the basil and carrots grow in our garden, all the children are very
excited to be able to pick and enjoy this feast. We came in to make our pasta
dough and rolled it through the pasta maker. We picked and washed our basil and
carrots and I prepared them for lunch.

Freya was especially happy to have pesto pasta – the recipe came form home and I think
Freya really felt as if she was sharing and contributing, it was wonderful to
see her smiling.

Later in the afternoon we went for a walk around the garden and picked some fresh green
beans, Yum!
